Canada is a popular destination among tourists from all over the world. It is a vast country with various natural landscape wonders, including oceans, forests, and mountains. The country offers innumerable attractions and activities, such as snowboarding, skiing, hiking, and camping. Irrespective of the time of the year you visit Canada, it offers something to tourists of all age groups and interests. The people here are welcoming and friendly. It is a well-developed and safe place for travelers.

It is obvious that you would require a visa if you are planning to visit this beautiful country. While applying for it, you have to meet certain Canada tourist visa requirements. You need to submit various documents like a valid passport, proof of funds, and proof of employment, financial assets, or family to prove to the authorities that you intend to return to your home country before the expiry of your visa.

While gathering documents for proof of funds, many people get doubts and frequently ask how much funds are needed to get a visitor visa to Canada. This article gives you an idea of the amount needed for the visa and documents that serve as proof of funds.

Funds Needed for a Visitor Visa

One of the requirements to get your visitor visa approved is to have adequate funds to support yourself and your family during your stay in Canada and return home. However, the Canadian government has not published any guidelines on the amount needed in an account to get a visitor visa. In 2020, the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) rejected over 51 percent of visitor visa applications because of inadequate funds. A few of these applicants had not submitted the right proof to show they had sufficient funds.

A person residing in Canada generally requires 1,250 CAD (approximately INR 76000) per month to meet their monthly expenditures. Considering this, a tourist to Canada may need at least 2,000 CAD (approximately INR 1,20,000) per person for a month. So, they will have to present proof with at least this amount of funds for a single person while applying for a visa.

They should also have funds separately to apply for the visitor visa. The application fee is around 100 CAD (approximately INR 6000), and the biometrics fee is around 85 CAD (approximately INR 5100).

Documents That Serve as Proof of Funds

Ensure that you have proof to submit to the immigration authorities – a document that shows you have funds of at least INR 1.5 lakh per person for your visit to Canada. A few documents that can serve as proof are your bank statement, proof of financial support from family or friends residing in Canada to cover your expenditures while staying in Canada, shares, PPFs, or FDs. You can also attach a copy of your employment letter that shows your annual income or income proof of your host in Canada.

Hopefully, you now have a fair understanding of the funds needed for your visitor visa to Canada. You can even discuss this with an immigration lawyer to get a better idea in this aspect so that he can help you with your visitor visa or business visa Canada.
